Dani Pedrosa in Full Flight!

On his way to 3rd on the grid Dani is pictured giving it all the beans through Woodcote during final qualifying. He managed to bring the bike home and finish fifth  in the rain in an accident-filled race.

The legendary 'Red 5'

The Williams FW14 was designed by Adrian Newey and used during the 1991 and1992 Formula One seasons. This car was the dominant car of 1992 and Mansell wrapped up the 1992 Drivers' Championship with a then record 9 wins in a season.

To mark 25 years since Mansell's victory in the British GP and 1992 title success Williams Heritage, the team's division which preserves, showcases and runs a fleet of cars dating back to 1977, ran the FW14B during lunch breaks on the Saturday and Sunday of the Classic.

Valentino full on

This is Valentino full on through Woodcote during qualifying at the British Moto GP at Silverstone 2015

Valentino Rossi regained the lead in the MotoGP championship with his victory in a dramatic wet race at Silverstone. The Movistar Yamaha rider mastered the treacherous conditions in driving rain after taking the lead from Lorenzo in the opening stages while his closest rival Marc Marquez crashed out on lap 13 to all put end his revival in the championship battle.

Tyrrell-Ford 001

This is the Original Tyrrell 001  which was designed between the end of the 1970 and the beginning of the 1971 Formula One season by Tyrrell Racing's Chief Designer, Derek Gardner. This car competed in five Grand Prix, driven by Sir Jackie Stewart, retiring on four occasions and achieving one second-place finish. Peter Revson drove the 001's final race in the United States Grand Prix but retired with clutch failure.

This Digital Artwork is created by myself from my own original photograph. It is from a  shot I took at the Silverstone Classic.

Martini Porsche 917-053

We were very lucky to get a glimpse of this rare Le Mans winning Porsche 917, it is owned by the official Porsche Museum and brought over to the Goodwood Festival of Speed to be ob Static display.

Le Mans in 1971 was a race of records. Driving this very car – chassis number 917-053, the last coupé built – for the factory-affiliated Martini Racing Team, Gijs van Lennep and Dr. Helmut Marko covered 5,335.3km over the course of the 24 hours, at an average speed of 222.3kph. In doing so, the duo set a distance record that would stand for almost four decades. That’s pretty remarkable for a car that, when it was introduced two years prior, was deemed almost un-driveable at high speed by even the finest of drivers.

Its Le Mans victory is not the only special characteristic of this car. Chassis number 917-053 is the sole surviving (and only raced) Porsche 917 coupé with a tubular frame built from magnesium – an alloy that, though ultra lightweight, burns at a very low temperature, and so fiercely that it’s near impossible to extinguish. Furthermore, the frame was pressurised with gas. When the pressure gauge in the cockpit dropped, Brian Redman reported that the engineers would go around all the joints with a cigarette lighter to identify the leak.

It seems ludicrous today that company executive’s took the decision to allow men to drive what was essentially a mobile bomb in anger. But this was a sign of the times, and by no means were they alone. It is for this reason that, following its triumph on its maiden outing at La Sarthe, 917-053 was retired by Porsche and never fired up again, simply for fear of what would happen with its ageing and fragile chassis. It is therefore a one hit wonder, in the finest sense of the term.

Marc Marquez on the limit

This is Marc Marquez on the limit around Luffield during his Pole lap of the British Moto GP.

A rain hit Silverstone made for an interesting start to Sunday’s British Grand Prix. Marc Marquez’s race pace in the dry had been almost untouchable, but this meant nothing as the wet race got underway. Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) had taken an early lead but Marquez and Rossi were able to pass him and the pair set about breaking away from the rest of the MotoGP™ field. Marquez and his Repsol Honda were sat comfortably behind Rossi and were six seconds ahead of the riders fighting for third. Unfortunately on Lap 13 Marquez fell at Turn 1, ending his race and title chances.

Mike Dean, Gould, Whoopsie Daisy!

I'm having a bit of fun with this pictorial. They say photography is all about being in the right place at the right time. I certainly was for this sequence of shots. There are actually 3 more in the suite but these four best represent Mike's "Moment".

Seriously, I hope the damage was not to bad, it certainly entertained the spectators!

Leyton House TOM’S Toyota 86C Group C1 sportscar
raced by Geoff Lees, Satoru Nakajima and Mansori Seyika in the 1986 Le Mans.

The 86C was built by the TOM’S factory and run by the Leyton House team competing in the 1986 Le Mans. Powered by the same race-proven turbocharged 2.1-litre 4T-GTE engine that helped Toyota achieve a creditable 12th place finish in the 1985 Le Mans, it is a 650bhp monster equipped with a special twin-coil, twin-spark MoTeC ignition system and a classic Hewland DG gearbox.

Although this distinctive number 36 86C didn’t enjoy the success of its predecessor – it qualified in 40th position out of a grid of 54 cars but failed to finish the race proper.

Leyton House Kremer Porsche Chassis: 962-118 T-1

Originally applied to a factory Porsche 962C, the 118 chassis number is believed to have been used for at least four other Thompson-tubbed Kremer 962s. This was probably to avoid paying custom charges for every new car. Featured is one of these early 962 CK6s, using chassis 118. It is believed to be the fourth and final Kremer/Thompson 118 built, which raced in the World Championship in 1987 and 1988 and was subsequently campaigned in Japan. Today it has been beautifully restored to the Leyton House livery used by the Kremer works team and is a regular in historic events.

The Leyton House CG901 was a Formula One racing car designed by Adrian Newey for the 1990 Formula One World Championship. Five chassis were built and were powered by the Judd EV 3.5 litre V8 engine. Chassis 001 was subsequently modified mid-season to accommodate the Ilmor 2175A engine the team used in 1991. The drivers for 1990 were the highly rated Ivan Capelli and Maurício Gugelmin. The CG in the name stood for Cesare Gariboldi, a March Leyton team manager who was killed in a road accident in 1989

John Cobb's Brooklands World Speed Record Holder, Napier-Railton

This is one of my favorite cars. The Napier-Railton is an aero-engined race car built in 1933, designed by Reid Railton to a commission by John Cobb, and built by Thompson & Taylor. It was driven by Cobb, mainly at the Brooklands race track where it holds the all-time lap record (143.44 mph (230.84 km/h)) which was set in 1935. This stands in perpetuity as the circuit was appropriated for military purposes during the Second World War and was never used as a racing track again.

This picture was actually taken at its home Brooklands. We went to the Museum with on of the goals to see this vehicle on display. We have seen it in action at the Goodwood Festival of Speed many times, it sounds amazing. When we got to its permanent spot in the Museum the space was empty with a sign saying it had gone to Penrith Sands to help mark the re-running of Bab's (That's another story).

Disappointed but not defeated because Brooklands is a wonderful place we continued our adventure. We came across the fenced off area below the original Brooklands banking that remains to this day. I said to Lynda "We can't come to Brooklands and not stand on the hallowed banking" so through the barrier we went.

Got up to the banking looked right and to our complete surprise there was the Napier-Railton being photographed under the famous iron Bridge on the Brooklands concrete banking complete with a period Bentley and all the people in period dress. I had to take advantage of the staging.

I hovered behind the professional photographer, who I figured must know what he is doing better than me, and clicked off some shots absolutely brilliant experience!

Later I got some more fantastic shots of the Napier-Railton being staged in front of the period fuel station at the Museum with the Mechanic filling the car while the driver looked on - what a treat. You can see these on my photography site at:
