Silverstone Classic, 1965 BMW 1800 TI/SA

BMW 1800 TI/SA this weekend. Produced in 1965 specifically for works teams, only 200 such cars were built featuring twin carburettors, a higher compression ratio and a five speed gearbox. The 130bhp TI/SA, which won many races including a second place finish at the 24 Hours of Spa, will be piloted in the ‘under 2-Litre Touring Car’ category by the BMW M3 DTM driver Andy Priaulx.

Andy Priaulx enjoyed extraordinary battle in the Sir John Whitmore Trophy for under 2-litre Touring cars. Piloting a BMW 1800, led during the early exchanges . A four-way scrap for supremacy ensued between two Lotus Cortina's and two BMWs and was eventually won by the Cortina of Leo Voyazides and Simon Hadfield after Priaulx had passed the BMW baton to his team-mate. It was lovely to be sliding a touring car around again, said a beaming Priaulx afterwards.
